3.1-Magnitude Quake Jolts Qutbullapur in Telangana

Early Thursday morning, a mild earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale was recorded near Qutbullapur village in Vikarabad district, Telangana. The tremor struck at approximately 3:56 a.m. and lasted only a few seconds.

Quake Details

The National Centre for Seismology reported the epicentre in farmland west of Qutbullapur, at an estimated depth of 10 km. The quake’s effects were felt across parts of Parigi mandal, particularly in villages such as Basireddypalli, Rangapur, and Nyamathnagar. Many residents were startled awake and rushed outdoors, though several nearby villages reported no noticeable impact.

Safety and Response

Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage. In response to the tremor, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has urged local officials to remain vigilant. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have initiated reassurance and safety measures, especially in light of ongoing heavy rainfall in the region.

Regional Seismic Context

This quake adds to a pattern of minor seismic activity in and around Vikarabad. Earlier this morning, separate tremors measuring 3.8 were also felt in the district, with the epicentre near Asifabad. These events suggest a period of heightened geological activity in the area, though they remain within the range of low-intensity earthquakes.
