SLC Makes Fitness Test Key For IPL NOCs

Sri Lanka Cricket has made fitness clearance compulsory for players seeking No Objection Certificates to take part in IPL 2026, adding uncertainty around the availability of several high-profile names ahead of the tournament. The move means Sri Lankan players will not be cleared for the IPL unless they first pass the board’s physical performance tests.

Sri Lanka Cricket Makes Fitness Test Mandatory

Sri Lanka Cricket said players requesting NOCs for IPL 2026 must successfully complete a mandatory physical performance test before being allowed to participate. The decision reflects the board’s effort to prioritise player fitness and recovery, especially for cricketers returning from injury or rehabilitation. The rule applies to all Sri Lankan players hoping to join their IPL franchises this season.

Chameera, Nissanka And Kamindu Clear NOC Process

Dushmantha Chameera, Pathum Nissanka and Kamindu Mendis have already passed their required tests and received NOCs for IPL 2026. Their clearance means they are available for their franchises, subject to normal team selection and scheduling. The early approvals also show that the board is moving case by case rather than delaying all players as a group.

Hasaranga, Pathirana And Others Face Delay

Wanindu Hasaranga, Eshan Malinga and Matheesha Pathirana are yet to complete the required physical tests as they continue rehabilitation from injuries. Nuwan Thushara’s eligibility also remains dependent on the outcome of his test. This has created uncertainty for franchises waiting on final confirmation over player availability, particularly with the IPL season approaching quickly.

The directive could have a real effect on team planning, especially for franchises relying on Sri Lankan bowlers and all-rounders in the early phase of the competition. While the board’s stance is aimed at protecting player fitness, it also means clubs may have to prepare for delayed arrivals or short-term replacements if some players are not cleared in time.
