28 Maoists Surrender in Narayanpur with ₹89 Lakhs Bounty

Twenty-eight Maoist cadres, including nineteen women, surrendered in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on 25 November 2025. The group carried a combined bounty of approximately ₹89 lakh according to district police officials. The event is seen as a significant milestone in efforts to reduce armed left-wing extremism in the region.

Details of the Cadres and Weapons Handed Over

Among the surrendering cadres were members from various levels of the insurgency, including military company members, area committee members, supply team members, and local operational squad personnel. Three of the cadres handed over firearms—one Self Loading Rifle (SLR), one INSAS rifle and one .303 rifle—to security forces during the surrender ceremony.

Implications for Insurgency and Rehabilitation

The police said that with this surrender, the total number of Maoist cadres who have laid down arms in Narayanpur in 2025 has reached 287. Authorities believe that the wave of surrenders signals weakening operational and organisational capability of the insurgent groups. The event is also seen as a validation of the government’s rehabilitation and reintegration policy in the Bastar range, which combines outreach, livelihoods support and security pressure to encourage militants to abandon violence.
