25 Dead In Goa Nightclub Fire, Managers Arrested
A major fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, Goa, killed at least 25 people late on Saturday night. Officials confirmed that 20 of the victims were staff members, while five were tourists who were at the venue when the blaze erupted.
Fire Triggered During Night Performance
Investigators said the fire started after electric firecrackers were used during a dance performance. The sparks ignited wooden interiors and decorations, causing flames to spread rapidly across the packed venue. Early confusion suggested a gas cylinder blast, but police later clarified that no cylinder explosion took place.
Many victims died due to severe smoke inhalation and suffocation, as the fire spread quickly and escape routes were limited in the darkened club environment.
Four Senior Staff Members Arrested
Police have arrested four senior employees of the nightclub, including the chief general manager and three managers. Officers said an FIR has also been registered against the owners of the nightclub for alleged safety lapses and violations of operating conditions.
Investigation And Inquiry Ordered
The Goa government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Authorities will examine whether the club had proper fire safety permissions, whether exits were adequate and if electrical equipment used for the show was approved.
Teams are also assisting families of the deceased. Officials said compensation and support for victims’ relatives will be finalised soon.
State Response
Goa Chief Minister stated that strict action will be taken if negligence is proven. Rescue teams, fire services and forensic experts remain on site to assess damage and collect evidence. Post-mortem examinations are underway and identification of some victims is still in progress.
