20 Dead, 18 Injured in Truck-Bus Collision in Telangana
A tragic collision occurred early Monday morning when a gravel-loaded tipper truck collided head-on with a state-run bus of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) near the Khanapur Gate area under the Chevella police station limits in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana. Officials confirmed that 20 people lost their lives and 18 sustained injuries in the crash.
What Happened
The bus was reportedly travelling towards Hyderabad with around 70 passengers on board when the truck, which was reportedly on the wrong side of the road and overspeeding, collided with it. Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the devastating impact. Rescue teams and the district authorities are coordinating to shift the injured to major hospitals in Hyderabad for advanced treatment.
Response
State officials have directed urgent medical and logistical support to the scene. The Chief Minister has asked for immediate facilitation of the injured and the next-of-kin of the deceased. Police have registered a case and begun investigating the exact cause of the accident, including the possibility of the truck violating traffic norms and the speed limit.
Significance
This incident is yet another reminder of persistent safety challenges on Indian highways. The head-on nature of the crash underscores the risks posed by overspeeding and wrong-side driving. With multiple deaths and many injured, it may prompt renewed calls for stricter enforcement and better coordination in highway safety measures.
