20 Burned Alive in Rajasthan Bus Fire
A private bus traveling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire near Thaiyat village, about 10 km from Jaisalmer. The flames spread quickly after erupting in the rear of the vehicle, leaving 20 passengers dead and 16 injured.
Cause and Onboard Details
Initial investigations suggest a short circuit, possibly linked to the air conditioning unit, triggered the blaze. The bus was carrying 57 passengers, and many were unable to escape as exits were blocked when the fire intensified.
Rescue Efforts and Medical Aid
Local residents, aided by the Army and police, rushed to the scene to help rescue trapped passengers. The injured were admitted to Jawahar Hospital in Jaisalmer, with critical cases later shifted to Jodhpur hospitals. Authorities are using DNA testing to identify charred remains.
Political Response
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the site and directed officials to provide full assistance. The state has also activated a helpline for families. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief and announced compensation of ₹2 lakh for each victim’s family and ₹50,000 for the injured.
