A man identified as Rohit Arya took 17 children and two adults hostage in a studio in Mumbai’s Powai area on Thursday afternoon. The children, aged between 12 and 15, were reportedly invited to the location under the pretext of a web-series audition. The police received the alert around 3 pm and launched a rescue operation.
Rescue Operation and Captor’s Demise
During the operation, Arya threatened to harm the hostages and brandished a weapon. A police team, with assistance from the fire brigade, cut through grill barriers for access and neutralised the threat when Arya fired at officers. He was shot in the chest and later declared dead at the hospital. All hostages were rescued safely and reunited with their families.
Investigation and Background Details
Authorities say Arya had claimed prior grievances and demanded to speak with prominent officials. His motive remains under investigation, along with any mental-health issues. The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the case. The studio premises have been sealed and evidence is being collected.
