14 Maoists Killed in Two Encounters in Chhattisgarh
Security forces killed 14 Maoist insurgents in two separate encounters in Chhattisgarh on Friday as part of ongoing anti-insurgency operations in the Bastar region. The encounters took place in the forested areas of Sukma and Bijapur districts, which have long been affected by left-wing extremism.
Details of the Two Operations
In the first encounter, which occurred in the Kistaram area of Sukma district, security personnel launched an operation based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists. During the exchange of fire, 12 Maoists were killed. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including automatic rifles, was recovered from the site. Security officials said the operation was conducted by a joint team and that the area was later combed to rule out the presence of additional insurgents.
The second encounter took place in a separate operation in Bijapur district, where two Maoists were killed during a search operation by security forces. Weapons were also recovered from the scene. Officials said the encounter occurred when Maoists opened fire on the advancing security personnel.
Ongoing Anti-Insurgency Drive
Police said no casualties were reported among the security forces in either operation. The encounters are part of intensified operations aimed at weakening Maoist networks in south Chhattisgarh. Security forces have continued combing operations in the region to ensure the area is fully secured and to prevent possible retaliation.
