110 Indian Students Evacuated from Iran, Set to Arrive in Delhi Tomorrow
In a swift and coordinated response to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, 110 Indian students stranded in Iran have been successfully evacuated to Armenia and are scheduled to return to Delhi tomorrow. The students, primarily from Urmia Medical University in northwestern Iran, were relocated by road to the Armenian border and received by Indian officials stationed in Yerevan.
The evacuation was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), with embassy teams in both Tehran and Yerevan facilitating logistics, border movement, and documentation. Among those evacuated are students from several Indian states, including seven from Kashmir.
India Evacuation Initiative
This evacuation comes amid rising security concerns as Iran faces ongoing missile strikes and retaliatory air raids. India currently has around 10,000 nationals in Iran, including an estimated 6,000 students. Following advisories urging Indian citizens to avoid high-risk areas and remain in contact with embassies, the MEA activated a control room to manage emergency evacuations and provide real-time assistance.
Cross-Border Safe Passage
The group of 110 students traveled by land from Urmia to the Armenia border, where arrangements had been made for their reception and temporary accommodation. From Yerevan, they are expected to board a special flight to Delhi, marking the first official repatriation from the conflict zone.
Broader Context
As the situation in Iran rapidly deteriorates—with mass evacuations in Tehran and rising civilian casualties—India’s response underscores its focus on citizen safety and diplomatic preparedness. The operation is part of a broader contingency plan that may see further evacuations in the coming days depending on security assessments.
