
11 Dead, Over 50 Injured in Tamil Nadu Bus Collision
At least 11 people were killed and more than 50 injured after two government buses collided head-on near Vivekananda Polytechnic College in Tirupattur, Sivaganga district, on Sunday evening. The accident occurred around 5 PM when one bus was heading from Kangeyam to Karaikudi and the other was travelling from Karaikudi to Dindigul.
Victims Shifted to Multiple Hospitals
Police said eight victims, including one of the drivers, died on the spot. Three others succumbed to injuries in hospital. Of the deceased, nine were women. More than 50 passengers sustained injuries ranging from fractures to head trauma. They were rushed to hospitals in Karaikudi, Thirupattur and Sivaganga. Fire and rescue teams, assisted by nearly 20 ambulances, carried out the evacuation.
Preliminary Probe Points to Sudden Road Obstruction
Initial reports indicate that one of the buses attempted to avoid a woman crossing the road, resulting in a head-on collision. Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
Relief Announced by State Government
The Tamil Nadu government has announced ₹3 lakh compensation for families of those who died, ₹1 lakh for seriously injured passengers and ₹50,000 for those with minor injuries. Senior district officials visited the spot and hospitals to oversee rescue efforts and support arrangements.
